Dual Credit
College Credit Opportunities for OAO High School Students
About Dual Credit
in Florida
Florida offers a unique opportunity for high school students called Dual Credit. Unlike Dual Enrollment, which requires full-time college attendance and in-state residency, Dual Credit allows students to take individual college courses and earn credits that can transfer to colleges both in and out of Florida. It’s a flexible way to get a head start on college while still in high school.
Benefits of Dual Credit Programs
Head Start on College
Dual credit courses allow students to experience college-level coursework while still in high school. This can help them adjust to the demands of higher education and build confidence for their future academic journey.
Cost & Time Effective
By earning college credits while in high school, students can reduce the time and cost of obtaining a college degree. This cost-effective approach allows you to focus on higher-level courses or even graduate early.
Explore Diverse Academic Paths
Dual credit programs offer a chance to explore various academic subjects and potential career paths. Students can discover your passions and strengths without committing to a specific major right away.
Enhanced College Application
Successfully completing dual credit courses demonstrates academic readiness and dedication. This can significantly boost college applications and increase chances of admission to competitive universities.
Dual Credit at Southeastern University
Regardless of location, eligible students in grades 10-12 can enroll part-time at Southeastern University for free, with no tests or transcripts required.
Students can take SEU courses in-person at their main campus, in-person at partnering sites, or online. In-person courses are 16-weeks while online courses are 8-weeks and allow students to complete assignments on their own schedules. Credits transfer to most 4-year universities across the US.
